The Canterbury Vocals Scholarship Fund was created in 2019 to provide financial support for young female musicians and help them to achieve their goals and ambitions in music. The primary purpose of the fund is to support several young musicians each year through financial awards to help fund additional lessons, summer schools, masterclasses and special courses or to assist with the purchase of equipment such as music software or sheet music.

Applications are now open for 2024 - 2025. To be eligible to apply, you must be female, aged 18 or under and you must either live, or be attending school or college within a 20 miles radius of central Canterbury. You should already be receiving instrumental or vocal tuition and be able to demonstrate considerable commitment to the further study of music including clearly identified short term and long-term goals.

Scroll down to find out how some young musicians have already benefitted from the fund and to apply.

The generosity of the Canterbury Vocals Scholarship Fund means that I am able to continue my musical education at the Junior Royal Academy of Music on a Saturday. This means a tremendous amount to me, as it means that, not only can I keep pursuing my passion for music, but I can also discover and take new opportunities, make new musical friends and continue my double bass studies. All in all, the Scholarship Fund will help me to achieve my dream of joining the music profession. Thank you!

I applied for the canterbury vocal scholarship fund in 2019 to help me pay for a week-long vocal summer course at the Guildhall conservatoire of music and drama. Thanks to the scholarship fund I had a great week getting an insight into studying music and voice at university which further secured my decision to pursue a career as a musician, in particular a vocalist. I was able to work on the repertoire I would use for my university auditions with the conservatoire teachers, and I was able to write about this experience in my personal statement which I believe helped me get a place at Trinity Laban Conservatoire. It was a very valuable experience that I would not have been able to do without the help of the scholarship fund.

I was lucky enough to be awarded a scholarship to purchase the music software Logic and Sibelius - this has enabled me to arrange pieces of music, and experiment with music technology, leading me to where I am today.

I was so grateful to receive the Canterbury Vocals Scholarship. This will help me to realise my ambitions of playing cello in a professional orchestra in the future. I love music! As well as cello, I sing in various school choirs and groups and play piano. I hope to pursue a career in music.

Recieving the scholarship was an achievement I will never forget. It has helped me to expand my musical ability through singing lessons, which has allowed me to be even more involved in the thing I love to do the most. I am now working towards higher grades and feel confident and excited about my musical future thanks to the award.
